Loyola Marymount University, a Roman Catholic institution in California is hosting a fundraiser where the proceeds go to Planned Parenthood. In protest of the decision, pro-life supporters drafted a petition to send to the university’s president. It asked him to cancel the event because Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the nation and has also been involved in illegally selling fetal tissue. Host of the Catholic Bioethics podcast “Brave New Us” and author of an upcoming Catholic guide to the bioethics of motherhood and reproduction, Samantha Stephenson, joins to share her reaction when she heard the university was going to hold the fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. Stephenson tells us more about the fundraiser, what the event is and whether it was meant to foster debate. She discusses more about the protest petition, how she is involved and why she finds this cause so important. The event is being sponsored by LMU Women in Politics, but the school says it is not a university sponsored event. The author explains what more is known about that. Stephenson fills us in on whether there has been any reaction from the students, alumni or university’s president.
