‘Defund Human Trafficking’ Bill Passes Out of Committee

This week was crunch-time for legislators as multiple committees in both chambers of the state legislature heard dozens of bills ahead of the March 1 deadline for committee work.

Among the bills supported by the Catholic Conference is Sen. Greg Treat’s ‘Defund Human Trafficking’ bill, SB 1267. If passed, the law would prohibit Medicaid funding for Oklahoma organizations found to have been involved, whether directly or indirectly through affiliates, in the illegal sale of aborted fetal remains.

Sen. Treat presented his bill to the Health & Human Services committee on Monday, which passed overwhelmingly along a party-line vote of 10-2. The bill will move to the floor for a full Senate vote in the coming weeks.
