U.S. Senators James Lankford and Kelly Loeffler of Georgia are leading an effort to get an investigation underway on Planned Parenthood for alleged misuse of the Paycheck Protection Program and possible criminal activity. They are joined by several Senators in calling for the Treasury Department and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to take a deeper look into the allegations.
In a letter to the Treasury, Lankford and Loeffler’s group of 27 Senators requested for the investigation into how 43 Planned Parenthood affiliates wrongly receiving a combined $80 million. The group also wants to know if the Planned Parenthood Federation of America was involved with the affiliates’ application process.
“We ask that you investigate how these affiliates were able to obtain PPP loans despite their ineligibility under the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) affiliation rules, whether any Planned Parenthood affiliates knowingly provided false information in their PPP loan applications, and to what extent the parent organization, Planned Parenthood for America (PPFA), was involved in the application process for said loans,” wrote the senators.
