Republicans Want Parents’ Rights in Education to be a National Priority

Nationwide battles continue over kids in the classroom between parents, teachers and school boards, over mask mandates and curriculum. Republicans are demanding more parental rights, as they see these issues as another opening to win back Congress in November’s midterm elections. Senator Rick Scott says, “Kids need to be in school. And parents need to be able to choose where their kids go to school. So, if you give parents more choice, they’ll be sending their kids to schools that are open. But the teachers’ union, of course, they want to control everything.” He is not alone in his thoughts. Republicans claim teachers’ unions are using mask mandates as an excuse to have students learn online. Senator Roy Blunt says he has asked the Biden Administration to look into why math and science achievements are down. He says he has yet to receive a response. Other Republicans say the Biden Administration has to do more.
