University of Pittsburgh Followed Laws During Fetal Tissue Research

A recent investigation into the fetal tissue research program at the University of Pittsburgh found it followed all state and federal laws. However, pro-life lawmakers contest the findings and say paying someone to investigate yourself is not viable. The University of Pittsburgh hired a Washington, D.C. law firm to review its NIH – subsidized fetal tissue research program and found nothing wrong. Congressman Chris Smith and Senator James Lankford, along with more than 80 other lawmakers, say the report is flawed and have asked the Inspector General to investigate. Lawmakers say before the investigation, multiple physicians claimed there was possibility that organs were being extracted from live babies, a violation of federal law. In their letter, lawmakers state they are concerned university researchers had, “…illegally altered abortion procedures solely for the purpose of obtaining fetal tissue.” Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
