Voters decide Oklahoma County will get new jail

The question on the ballot asked voters to approve a proposal that would fund a new jail and mental health facility.

The $260 million proposal would fund a new jail and mental health facility in Oklahoma County. County commissioners insist it will not raise taxes but opponents said we could pay less if it’s defeated.

The $260 million bond would not be enough alone to build a new jail but the county said they’re working to secure the other resources needed. Opponents argue there just aren’t enough details about a new jail, like the location, how big it would be and where those other resources would come from.
